Daniel Buratto pitched out of jam in the second inning, and Dos Pueblos defeated Ventura, 5-2, in a Channel League baseball game on Friday.
Buratto turned in a strong outing on the mound. He struck out nine and didn’t allow an earned run in six innings. In the second inning, Ventura had runners at first and second with no outs. The Cougars tried a sacrifice, but Buratto foiled it. He jump off the mound, raced to third base and got the force out. He escaped the inning without a run.
Buratto also had a good day with the bat, going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Luke Coffey double in a run to give DP a 1-0 lead in the third. The Chargers picked up two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Micheal Boelter went 2-3 at the plate and made two great defensive plays to keep Ventura from scoring any more runs in the sixth inning, DP coach Nick Katzenstein said.
Quinn Peacock was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.
The Chargers (8-9 overall) finish the first round of league play at 3-1.
