At its meeting of April 2, the SBHS Aquatics Booster Club Board of Directors approved the request of the Johnson family to utilize funds donated in memory of Nicholas Johnson for the purposes of capital improvements to the Santa Barbara High School aquatics facility and for education related to water safety.
The Board will be working in consultation with the Johnson family to select specific projects and educational programs.
“Several thousand dollars have already been donated to the fund, and even more has been pledged,” said Jennifer Brummett, the group’s president.
UCSB student and water polo player Nicholas Johnson died on March 24, 2014 after being pulled unresponsive from the Santa Barbara High School pool. Before attending UCSB, Johnson competed for Santa Barbara High School’s water polo and swim teams. He also played on the water polo team for the Santa Barbara Aquatics Club.
Donations to the Nicholas Johnson Memorial Fund can be made via the Aquatics Booster Club website (www.sbhsaquatics.com) or by sending a check to the SBHS Aquatics Booster Club:
