UCSB sophomore setter Jonah Seif has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Team.

Seif was a second team selection. He becomes the first UCSB setter to be named an All-American since Todd Travis in 1996. He is also the youngest Gaucho to earn All-America status since Evan Patak was honored as a sophomore in 2005. Seif joins Dylan Davis (2013), Jeff Menzel (2011), and Andy McGuire (2011) as the fourth Gaucho to be named an All-American under the tutelage of head coach Rick McLaughlin.
“It’s a well deserved award for Jonah,” said McLaughlin. “We’re all proud of him as a program and he definitely deserves it based on the strides he’s made as a player. Hopefully this will be the first of many for him.”
One of three Gauchos to have appeared in all 26 of the team’s matches, Seif has accrued 1,085 assists, 31 aces, 174 digs, 98 blocks, and 58 kills on the year.
At the end of the regular season, he ranked fifth in the MPSF with a 10.6 assist per set average. He also ranked at or near the top among conference setters in aces, kills, blocks, and digs.
The Thousand Oaks native had a pair of standout performances this season, including a triple-double (48 assists, 12 digs, 10 blocks) against USC on Feb. 6 and a 61-assist performance at Long Beach State on Apr. 3, the most by a Gaucho since 2011.
Before last weekend’s quarterfinal win against UCLA, Seif was named an All-MPSF first team player, one of a program-record five Gauchos to receive All-Conference honors.
