El Camino used superior serving and passing to down SBCC 3-1 on Friday night in a WSC men’s volleyball match at Torrance. The scores were 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16.
Evan Yoshimoto had 15 kills and Owen Yoshimoto notched his second straight double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs for the Vaqueros (8-9, 3-7). The WSC-leading Warriors (14-4, 10-1) won the hitting battle, .222 to .124.
“We passed atrociously, our worst performance in weeks,” said first-year coach Matt Jones. “When you play the No. 1 team in conference, you have to at least match them in the serve and pass game.
“We weren’t in system and they had a nice balanced attack. They out-served and out-passed us in every game but the third one.”
Carl Mendoza had 16 digs and four aces. Setter Drew Hogan added 11 digs, 37 assists and four blocks. Davis Grininger contributed six blocks.
The Vaqueros play at Moorpark on Wednesday, then host Long Beach in their season finale on Friday at 6 p.m.
