Owen Yoshimoto recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs on Wednesday night, leading SBCC to a 3-1 men’s volleyball win at L.A. Trade Tech. The scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17.
Nick May had 15 kills and two aces while Evan Yoshimoto matched his brother with 13 kills. The Vaqueros, 3-6 in the WSC, won their second straight match to even their overall record at 8-8. The Beavers, a first-year program, fell to 1-16 and 0-10.
Middle hitters Junior Too and Davis Grininger had six kills apiece with Too hitting .400 and Grininger .308. Too also had five blocks.
“We were really slow in the first two sets and didn’t play with a lot of energy,” said coach Matt Jones. “In sets 3 and 4, we started playing the way we should. They played good defense and made us work for the win.”
Drew Hogan had 47 assists, 16 digs and five blocks. Carl Mendoza made 14 digs, boosting his state-leading total to 220.
SBCC travels to first-place El Camino on Friday at 6 p.m
