SBCC lost a treasured member of its athletic family last week when Maggie Daly passed away in a tragic car accident. The 18-year-old freshman from Alamo, Calif., was a passenger in the accident, which happened on April 9 in Danville.
Daly helped the Vaqueros claim the CCCAA State Women’s Golf Championship last November at Tracy Country Club, not far from her hometown of Alamo.
“Maggie was a really good person, very upbeat with a lot of energy,” said SBCC golf coach Chuck Melendez. “She was a fabulous lady.
“On the course, she was one of our best players. She was strong and a very good ball-striker. She could hit it a long way.”
The SBCC men’s golf team, also coached by Melendez, played Monday’s WSC meet in Daly’s honor. “I told them how special she was and how important friendships are,” said Melendez. “I was extremely proud of the way they honored her.”
Daly, a graduate of San Ramon High School, was described as “a vibrant, beautiful young woman with an amazing smile and warm heart.”
“Maggie was a special young lady,” said Vaquero athletic director Ryan Byrne. “She is not the type of person you forget about. She just had a great energy about her. Our hearts are heavy and our collective thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
She is survived by her mother Kathy, her father Gene and a large extended family of 11 aunts and uncles and 17 cousins from across the country.
A service celebrating her wonderful life, spirit, joy and talents will be held on Thursday, April 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of San Ramon Valley in Danville.
