Carson Curtis and Jake DePass tied for medalist honors at 77 on Monday and SBCC edged the host school, Glendale, to capture the eighth WSC men’s golf tournament at Oakmont Country Club.
Curtis is a freshman from Dos Pueblos High while DePass is a freshman from Auburn, Calif. They tied for first on the difficult 7,015-yard course with Aaron Grimes of Canyons and Vincent Lam of Glendale.
The course is rated 74.6 from the championship tees.
Blake McPherson added a 78 for SBCC, which totaled 396 and beat Glendale by four strokes in the eight-school competition. Canyons was third at 410 and Ventura was fourth at 416.
Canyons leads the conference standings with a 52-4 mark with two matches left. The Vaqueros, who’ve won two WSC meets, are second at 45-11, followed by Ventura (42-14).
“It was a difficult, grueling course with a little bit of wind,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Everyone had a tough time today. It was great to see Carson and Jake come through with the lowest scores.”
The Vaqueros will take next week off, then compete in the 36-hole WSC Championships (matches 9 and 10) on Monday, April 28 at Brookside GC in Pasadena.
