History was made at the Dos Pueblos tennis courts on Tuesday. The Chargers beat Ventura 17-1 and earned a share of the Channel League boys title for the first time in 39 years.
Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High finished atop the league standings with 7-1 records.
“I am proud of this team for its incredible efforts over time, and especially this season, and appreciate its immense trust,” Dos Pueblos coach Liz Frech said. “It took all of us to get here. As John Wooden said, ‘Little things make the big things happen.’”
Senior Patrick Corpuz won the clinching set for the Chargers, 16-2 overall and ranked eighth in CIF Division 1.
Dos Pueblos took eight of nine sets. In doubles, Mason Casady and Joshua Wang went 3-0 and improved to 44-1 on the season.
The Chargers return to the courts on Wednesday, traveling to ninth-ranked Westlake
