Westmont Baseball had one of those days they would rather forget. The 18th-ranked Warriors fell to No. 12 The Master’s by a score of 13-3. The loss ended Westmont’s 12-game winning streak.
After giving up solo runs in the second and third innings, Westmont gave up seven runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to fall behind 12-0. Westmont rallied a bit in the seventh inning by scoring three times, but it proved to be too little, too late.
Torin Shaikh (7-4) was charged with the loss after giving up nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits in five innings of work.
In other GSAC action, Biola’s Boone Farrington hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Eagles a 5-4 win over #7 San Diego Christian. Vanguard kept its hopes alive for a GSAC Tournament berth with a 5-1 win over #22 Concordia.
As a result of today’s games, San Diego Christian and The Master’s (36-13, 22-12) share first place, each with a conference record of 22-12. Westmont, Concordia and Vanguard are tied for third place at 20-14.
Because Concordia and Vanguard play each other Saturday in a doubleheader, The Master’s and San Diego Christian have clinched two of the four playoff spots in the GSAC Tournament. Westmont can clinch a spot by winning one of its two games Saturday against The Master’s. Either Vanguard or Concordia can claim a spot by winning both games against each other.
If Westmont, Vanguard and Concordia end the season tied for third place, Westmont and Vanguard will advance to the GSAC Tournament by virtue of the three teams’ records against each other.
