Laguna Blanca’s boys volleyball team challenged itself by playing at Saddleback Valley Christian, and the Owls took a game off the CIF Division 5 top-ranked team on Friday night.
Laguna Blanca, ranked No. 5 in the division, lost the match, 25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12.
“We got their late due to traffic and we struggled in the first set,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said. “We showed up in sets two and three, and they put their foot to the gas pedal on us in game four.”
Kiyan Mashhoon had 10 kills, three blocks and two service aces to lead Laguna Blanca. Ryan Bickett played a stellar match on defense, picking up 26 digs.
“That was impressive against one of best offenses in our division,” said Bennett. “I’m proud of the effort from our guys.”
The Owls return home to play Salesian on Saturday at 2 p.m.
