Laguna Blanca clinched a tie for the Condor League boys volleyball title with a 25-14, 25-16, 24-26, 25-10 win at Cate on Wednesday.
“We played good volleyball today for most of the match,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said. ” We came into this one with the mindset that we were going to try and play with a few different lineups to get ready for playoffs and Viewpoint Thursday night. Cate played really good defense and caught fire there in the third set and we had an opportunity to go ahead there that we let slip away. All in all, everybody on our squad played and got better today.”
The Owls were led by Colton Johnson with 11 kills. Andrew Vignolo had eight kills and Kiyan Mashhoon had six. Ryan Bickett picked up 31 assists.
Morgan Pierce led a balanced Cate attack with eight kills. Mo Batal added seven kills, Spencer Whiteman had six and Oliver Welch had five.
“We had moments of brilliance, especially in the fourth game,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “But we weren’t able to keep it up the entire match, and Laguna was able to do that. They play calmly and confidently.
Laguna Blanca is 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the Condor League. Cate is 4-2 in league.
