Dos Pueblos clinched a tie for second place in Channel League with a four-set volleyball win over Ventura on Tuesday. The scores were 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19.
With Santa Barbara losing to San Marcos, DP is alone in second at 5-2. A win over Buena on Thursday would give it second outright. Santa Barbara (4-3) ends league play against Ventura
Matt Sessler led the Chargers with nine kills on 16 attempts and served a pair of aces. Elliott Brainerd had his 6 for 10 and Brandon Burkhardt put away five kills on nine attempts.
“His attack was smooth tonight and it was awesome to see him flying around the backside,” DP coach Ehren Hug said of Burkhardt.
Libero Jeffrey Araki provided consistent passing, said Hug, who also praised the hustle of Jeff May. “He was making the scramble plays that I kill for as a coach,” said Hug.
