Dos Pueblos’ boys volleyball team completed play at Bellarmine Prep’s King of Cali Tournament on Saturday with a 25-21, 25-22 victory over Archbishop Mitty.
The Chargers, who went 2-2 on Saturday, finished the 32-team tournament in 15th place. DP started the day be defeating Saratoga in straight sets before falling to Thousand Oaks 25-18, 23-25, 15-12. The match with the Lancers could have gone either way according to Chargers head coach Ehrin Hug.
“We had opportunities that we were not able to capitalize on and TO was more consistent down the stretch,” Hug said.
Nate Holmes, with seven, and Matt Sessler, with 13, led the team in kills against TO. Middles Eli Schulman and Kurt Randmaa combined for nine kills. Mark Raphael was a defensive standout with five digs to go with 34 assists.
The Chargers then lost to Aptos 25-18, 25-19 before rebounding in their final match against Mitty.
“It was such a great way to end the tournament with a victory against such a talented volleyball team,” Hug reported. “Our block was very disciplined which made Niko Plesons’ job much easier as he dug 12 balls and made countless acrobatic plays sprinting and flying all over the court to keep the ball alive.”
Dos Pueblos started the tournament with two victories on Friday over Wilcox (25-15, 25-13) and Los Gatos (25-21, 25-18).
Currently in first place in the Channel League, Dos Pueblos gets back to league play on Tuesday at Santa Barbara High.
