Andrew Butcher, who guided Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team to its first CIF-Southern Section championship, regional title and state finals appearance, has been named the Southern California Rookie Coach of the Year by the California Coaches Association.
Butcher is also a candidate for the CCA’s State Coach of the Year award. That will be announced at the CCA Coach of the Year banquet on June 14 in Sacramento.
Butcher was recently recognized as the State Division 3 girls basketball Coach of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports.
Santa Barbara won the CIF-SS Division 3-AA championship and the Southern Regional Division 3 title, and lost in the CIF State Division 3 Championship game against Modesto Christian.
