Mira Costa won eight singles sets held off Dos Pueblos in doubles for an 11-7 non-league tennis victory over the Chargers on Friday.
“This match was very tough all the way around, as well as lengthy (nearly three hours),” DP coach Liz Frech said. “I am proud of our team for battling tough to the end.”
Patrick Corpuz won the lone singles set for DP. He lost a long and close match against the Mira Costa’s No. 1 player Alex Gaal.
In doubles, Mason Casady and Joshua Wang swept the Mustangs and improved to 32-1 for the season. Greg Steigerwald and Ankush Khemani took one set, after losing two long sets. Then, Miles Baldwin and Andrew Tufenkian took two sets, after losing narrowly the first set.
“Playing good teams like Mira Costa helps us improve our tennis,” said Frech.
The Chargers are 12-2 overall. They return to the court Monday against powerful Campbell Hall.
