BTen: Fast start boosts Dons over Peninsula

Santa Barbara High’s tennis team got a big boost going into the postseason by beating 10th-ranked Peninsula, 13=5, in a non-league match of top-10 Division 1 teams on Wednesday.

The seventh-ranked Dons got out to a quick start as they led 6-0 after the first round and 11-1 after round 2.

“It was great to see our team get out to a quick start as there was no let up after clinching the Channel League championship yesterday,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “We had standout performances from many players today. Jackson Powell and Miles Hale were 2-0 in doubles and Matt McClintock and Jake Sutton went 2-1 against a tough Peninsula doubles lineup. Morgan Hale and Jordan Rodnick each went 2-0 in singles.”

Next up for Santa Barbara is a home match against San Luis Obispo on Friday, which will end their regular season. The Channel League individual tournament is next week.
