Santa Barbara High’s tennis team gave second-ranked Harvard Westlake a battle before falling 12-6 in a non-league match at the Dons’courts.
The match was tied at 3-3 after the first round. Santa Barbara fell behind 7-5 in the second round when Havard Westlake pulled out a tiebreaker win in the last match of the round to take a 7-5 lead.
“I was very impressed with how our team competed today,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “Harvard-Westlake has no weak links in their line up so every set you win is a battle. The fact that we were able to stay close with them until the very end says a lot about how our young team has progressed this season. Playing against this level of competition will also give us invaluable experience going into the playoffs.”
Morgan Hale led the Dons (8-4) with three set wins. Ryan Chung and Jordan Rodnick went 2-1 in doubles.
Santa Barbara plays Ventura on Thursday and plays host to Mira Costa on Saturday.
