BTen: Dons fall to No. 2-ranked Palos Verdes

Santa Barbara High ran into a tough Palos Verdes team and dropped a 14-4 non-league tennis match on Tuesday.

The doubles team of Jackson Powell/Jordan Rodnick won two sets for the Dons (10-5)

“Our team can hold their heads up high as we competed well the entire match,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “Palos Verdes is just too strong a team this year. They are undefeated and have played just about all of the top teams, so they are definitely one of the favorites to win it all.”

The Sea Kings (12-0) are ranked No. 2 in CIF Division 1.

“Whenever you go on the road to play a team like that, you just hope your players don’t get intimidated. Our guys were not intimidated and played hard. This experience will help us get ready for the playoffs.”

Next up for the Dons is the annual Ojai tournament. Morgan Hale will represent the Dons in singles and Powell and Rodnick will team up in doubles. The tournament begins on Thursday.
