Bishop Diego clinched a CIF tennis playoff berth for the second straight year with a 11-7 Frontier League win over Santa Clara on Thursday. The Cardinals finished in second place.
Spencer Ekola completed an unbeaten league season in singles at 27-0 and raised his overall record to 36-0. Matt Hammond went 3-0 against the Saints to go 17-7 in league; he’s 19-12 overall. Thomas Dawson-Karpf notched his first singles win.
In doubles, Dylan Pierz and Jose Pacheco won two sets, including a 7-6 (6) tiebreaker comeback against Santa Clara’s No. 1 team.
“I’m very happy with our second finish second this season,” Bishop coach Debbie Ekola said. “It’s great to see the boys improve so much and finish on such a high note.”
