Bishop Diego’s No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Pierz/Jose Pacheco suffered its first league loss, and the Cardinals came up short against St Bonaventure, 10-8, in a Frontier League tennis match on Thursday.
“The match was decided in doubles,” Bishop coach Debbie Ekola said. “We lost two very close sets (both 6-4). I thought we were going to finish in a 9-9 tie, but lost a closely contested match to St.Bonaventure’s No. 2 team.”
Pierz/Pacheco were on a 14-set winning streak before dropping a 6-4 set.
Spencer Ekola remained undefeated on the season (21-0), dropping only two games against the Seraphs.
Bishop’s No. 2 doubles team of Matt Hammond and Jake Stratford-Jones went 3-0.
The Cardinals are 3-2 in league and 3-4 overall.
