Bishop Diego has named Jeff Koval as its new boys basketball coach, Athletic Director Dan Peeters announced Wednesday.
Koval worked as a boys varsity assistant and frosh-soph head coach at Dos Pueblos this past season. He’s been involved in local basketball since 2010. He was the Director of Basketball Operations with the UCSB men’s team.
Koval replaces Dean Prophet, who resigned to take the varsity basketball position at Foothill Tech in Ventura. Prophet lives in Ventura. He guided the Cardinals to the CIF semifinals this season and led them to the finals in 2011.
Koval is a 2003 graduate of Servite High in Anaheim. He started his coaching career at Esperanza High in Anaheim, where he served as varsity assistant and freshmen head coach (2007-09) The following year, he worked as a varsity assistant and JV head coach at Mission Bay High School in San Diego (2009-10). In 2010, he accepted the position at UCSB.
Currently, Koval is finishing up the student teaching portion of his single subject teaching credential in English at Dos Pueblos.
“Coach Koval has worked very hard to put himself in a position to run a program, he is eager to get started, and I am excited to bring him aboard,” said Peeters.
