Teresa Downey blanked her opponent for the second straight match on Tuesday and SBCC topped Antelope Valley 7-2 in a women’s tennis match at Pershing Park.
Downey, the Vaqueros’ No. 1 player, posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Melissa Coyoy to improve to 7-0 in WSC matches. The Vaqueros, who got a pair of forfeit wins over Bakersfield this week, are 4-7 overall and 4-5 in conference.
The Marauders only had five players, so SBCC took a 2-0 lead after AVC forfeited the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Kenzie Usher had her best match of the year, hitting with power and confidence in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lorena Castillo at No. 5 singles. She also teamed with Gabriela McDaniel to take the No. 1 doubles set, 8-3.
Sophie Fink rallied in the second set to sweep the No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-4.
SBCC completes WSC play on Tuesday, April 1 at Glendale.
