Updates: Dons beat Yorba Linda to make 3AA final

Santa Barbara High defeats Yorba Linda 48-41 to earn a trip to the CIF 3AA Division championship game.

This is the first time since 1989 that the Dons will play in the final. It will be played either Friday or Saturday. the CIF will announce the date on Tuesday.

Yorba Linda’s Tori Liebel makes a 3-pointer, making it a 46-41 game with 18 seconds left to play.

After Yorba Linda misses a 1-1, the Dons turn the ball over with 49 seconds to play. The Dons lead 44-38.

Jocelin Petatan intercepts the inbound pass and Amber Melgoza is fouled with 43 seconds to go. She makes the first (45-38) and the second 46-38.

With 1:16 to go, Santa Barbara holds a 44-38 lead in the CIF 3AA girls basketball semifinal.

After Santa Barbara misses three free throws, Dezzy Coleman buries a 3-pointer and the Dons force a turnover on the press, and Jocelin Petatan scores to put them up 44-36 with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter.

It was a first half in which the Dons were ice cold shooting the basketball. Yet, they’re down by only two at halftime.

Santa Barbara still struggling to find their shooting touch in the first half. The Dons are getting open looks but the ball isn’t going down. With 3:46 to go in the second quarter, Yorba Linda leads 19-16.

A steal by Jocelin Petatan who feeds Dezzy Coleman for a basket with 6.3 seconds left in the quarrer. Coleman is fouled but misses free throw. Santa Barbara leads 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Dons missed several shots in the quarter, but their pressing defense enables them to keep the game close.
