Two-time state shot put champion Stamatia Scarvelis of Dos Pueblos opened her senior outdoor season with a pair of victories at the Don Green Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.
Scarvelis threw 51-9.50 to win the shot put and went 156-10 to take the discus at Moorpark High. She’s gone over 50 feet in five of her last six high school meets, dating back to last season. Her season-opening outdoor throw is better than her winning effort at last year’s State Meet and her second best as a Charger — she went 51-11 in the state prelims.
Niema Poindexter of the Chargers took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 35-5.50.
Natalie McClure won the frosh-soph 3200 in 12:08.94.
Several Chargers took runner-up honors. Cole Smith ran 9:45.60 in the 3200; Jon Dickinson threw 52-1.50 in the shot put; Tatiana Schluep ran 2:25. 64 in the 800; Ella Stimson cleared 9-0 in the pole vault and Addi Zerrenner ran 10:53. 34 in the 3200.
Zerrenner came in third in the 1600 (5:15.01). Other DP third-place finishers were Joseph Ochoa in the shot put (51-03.50) and Dickinson in the discus (142-11).
