Jessica Escalante won two races and ran a leg on the victorious 4 x 100 relay on Friday, helping SBCC to third place in the WSC Coastal women’s track and field meet at Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.
Escalante, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, took the 100 in 12.82 and the 200 in 26.61. She ran second on the winning 4 x 100 team that included Kaitlin Heely, Marla Bonser and Samantha Wikmark.
Ventura won the six-way meet with 164.5 points, followed by Cuesta (158) and SBCC (141).
Other winners for the Vaqueros were Kathryn Rucker in the high jump (1.65m) and Nicole Bartlett in the 800 (2:25.67). Rucker came close to clearing an SBCC all-time record 1.70 meters (5 feet, 6 7/8 inches) for the second straight week.
Kodie Hebert (35.12m) and Hailey Brundy (31.30m) went 2-3 in the javelin.
“With only 15 athletes comprising our squad, the women covered a lot of events and competed tough to keep it close with Ventura and Cuesta,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “The only thing I regret is not trying to fill a few more events to see if we could have found a few more points.”
SBCC will compete in the Orange Coast Classic on Friday in Costa Mesa
