Jessica Escalante piled up 22 points on Friday and Christina Khalil added 18 as SBCC took fourth in the WSC North women’s track and field meet at Bakersfield College.
Escalante, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, won the javelin (32.40 meters) and was third in the 100 (12.84) and 200 (26.78). Khalil, a sophomore from San Marcos, took second in the 100 hurdles (17.78) and fourth in the 400 (1:15.04) and long jump (3.85m).
The athletes competed in heavy rain for the first half of the meet. Canyons was first with 154.5 points, followed by Bakersfield (135.5), Ventura (124) and SBCC (116).
Alyssa Garrett totaled 14 points, taking second in the 400 hurdles (1:11.75) and third in 100 hurdles (19.01). Kathryn Rucker won the high jump, clearing 1.54 meters, and Mia Owens was first in the 3000 (11:28.17).
“The women did a great job competing in the challenging conditions,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “Jessica had a real strong day today as our top point scorer.”
On Friday, March 14, the Vaqueros will compete in the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton and the Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock.
