UCSB’s men’s tennis team (4-8) recorded its most dominant victory of the season on Saturday with an impressive 7-0 sweep of visiting Georgetown (5-5). UCSB swept the doubles competition and won at all six singles courts en route to the triumph.
The Gauchos got off to a hot start with a sweep in doubles for the first time this season.
Junior pairing Tobias Galskov and Ziad Sultan were first off the court with an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles. UCSB duo Teague Hamilton/Andrew Riminton followed up at No. 3 doubles, knocking off Georgetown’s Murphy/Portner 8-3 to clinch the doubles point for UCSB. Gauchos Erik Johnsson and Miles Seemann finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-7 victory at No. 2 doubles.
UC Santa Barbara kept their momentum rolling into the singles competition, winning all six matches to complete the sweep.
Senior Sasha Gryaznov was first off the courts as he raced out to a 4-1 lead in his match at court 3 before his opponent retired.
Junior Tobias Galskov defeated Georgetown’s Daniel Khanin at No. 1 singles to record his ninth dual victory of the season and extend his winning streak to five matches.
Juniors Ziad Sultan and Miles Seemann each collected their fourth dual victories, playing at No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively. Sultan posted a win against Shane Korber 6-3, 6-3, and Seemann dispatched John Brosens 6-1, 7-6.
Freshman Erik Johnsson finished off the sweep at No. 4 singles with a comeback victory against the Hoyas’ Alex Tropiano 5-7, 7-6 (10-8).
UC Santa Barbara returns to action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against Radford University at the Rec Cen Courts.
