Rachelle Visser won three events on Friday and SBCC took second in the five-way WSC No. 2 women’s swim meet at Santa Monica College.
Visser claimed the 50-yard free (25.96), 100 butterfly (1:01.26) and 100 backstroke (1:02.79). Kaili Faust and Emily Foster went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke with Faust notching a season-best 1:10.70. The freshman from Hawaii took second in the 50 free (26.82).
L.A. Valley was the team winner with 171 points and SBCC took second at 155. If you take away the diving points, the Vaqueros would have only lost by one. Santa Monica was a distant third with 89 points.
“We swam great with several season-best times,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “We’ve been training hard. The women competed until the end.”
Lauren Shackelford posted two best times while taking third in the 500 free (6:11.11) and the 1,000 free (12:33.39). Emily Wheeler was fourth in the same events.
Others who posted their best times were Madelyn Brooks (100, 200 free); and Janina Schultz, who was second in the 200 individual medley (2:29.28) and fourth in the 200 free. Foster grabbed third in the 200 IM, just a fraction behind Schultz in 2:29.74.
“The proundest moment for me was the 4 x 100 free relay,” said Roth. “Rocio Fesembeck, Westmoreland, Schultz and Foster swam so hard to secure our finish. I was really proud of them.”
The Vaquero quartet placed third in 4:05.90. SBCC was also third in the first race of the day, the 200 medley relay with the team of Autumn Lovett, Faust, Wallmon Malin and Westmoreland.
The Vaqueros will host their first-ever women’s swimming meet on Friday, March 28. WSC No. 3 will be held at San Marcos High, starting at 2:30 p.m.
