Rachelle Visser captured two events in season-best times on Friday and SBCC used its superior depth to defeat four teams in WSC women’s swimming meet No. 3 at San Marcos High.
Visser, a freshman from Holland, won the 200 IM (2:13.73) and 500 freestyle (5:24.69) in the first-ever home meet for the Vaqueros. She took the latter event by nearly 26 seconds. She also swam a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay, which featured Autumn Lovett, Kaili Faust, Visser and Janina Schulz.
SBCC took the five-school competition with 164 points, followed by Cuesta (125) and Santa Monica (94). The Vaqueros won three events while runner-up Cuesta posted six firsts.
Faust was under the weather but still turned in two personal bests to take second in the 50 free (26.80) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.62). Emily Foster took fourth in the 100 breast and 100 butterfly.
The Vaqueros went 3-4-5 in both the 200 and 1000 freestyle. Rocio Fesembeck was third in the 200 (personal-best 2:14.53) and Lauren Shackelford took third in the 1000.
Coach Chuckie Roth said the highlight of the meet was Alyson Marrs, who swam personal best times in the 50 free (31.87) and 100 back (1:17.61) plus her best leadoff time on the SBCC B 200 medley relay.
“She works hard every day, leads by example and is a delight to coach,” noted Roth.
He also praised the efforts of Brittany Thompson, who took fifth in the 1000 free and Schulz, who lowered her personal best by three seconds with her fourth-place (2:26.81) in the 200 IM.
The Vaqueros will compete in the Pasadena Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
