AUSTIN, Texas – UC Santa Barbara junior Wade Allen finished his time at the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with his best showing, finishing 31st in the 100 yard freestyle on Saturday.
“Wade had a good swim in an unbelievably fast race,” said UCSB head coach Gregg Wilson. “There were more than 60 swimmers in one of the most competitive and fastest events at the meet, and he had his best swim.”
Allen clocked a solid 43.61 in the race, just off of his personal best, but still good to help him finish in the top half of the standings.
“The paradigm is changing,” Wilson said. “Swims are getting so much faster, and Wade is a part of that.”
Previously, Allen finished 37th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 19.76 on Thursday, and he was 35th in the 100 yard butterfly on Friday in 47.28.
“I was happy that Wade has his best swim on his final day,” Wilson said. “He really brought it today and I’m proud of him.”
The performance by the native of Davis, Calif., officially completes UCSB’s 2013-14 swimming and diving season.
