The San Marcos girls swim team started the season on a good note Friday, winning the Channel League Relays at Santa Barbara High’s pool.
The Royals took first in three events, finished second in three others and grabbed a third.
The team victory was the first in several years for the Royals, noted coach Chuckie Roth
“We had some great impacts from veteran swimmers,” Roth said. “However, our depth ended up being the determining factor in the win. Two freshman, Amanda Hayes and Paige Hauschild, added to this depth. They swam with confidence and made a big difference. As a coach I was really impressed and the meet left me excited about the season. The girls work very hard and I am super excited to see where we go with this season.”
The Santa Barbara girls finished in fourth place. Coach Mark Walsh said . Sierra McNeel-Moore, Kelly Adams, and Jessee Ransone all posted good relay splits.
Walsh also noted the split times of Ben Brewer, Alex Roderick, and freshman Sawyer Rhodes for the boys teams. The Dons finished fourth.
Dos Pueblos edged Ventura for the boys team title. The Chargers won two events and were second in four others.
