A 10-run first inning sent Carpinteria on its way to a 16-1 non-league victory over rival Bishop Diego on Thursday in a five-inning game.
The Warriors featured a host of players with multiple hits, led by Paulina Barbosa’s 3-for-4 day that included a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Hannah Galsterer and Scarlett Pettine each had two hits, while Tatiana Requejo was 1-for-1 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Natalie Saito earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle with three scoreless innings. Kimmy Methmann finished the job by throwing the final two frames.
“We got a lot better from our opener vs Cabrillo,” reported Warriors head coach Henry Gonzalez. “We played well defensively and hit the ball consistently. Our focus and approach to playing was greatly improved.”
It was the season opener for Bishop Diego, which plays again on Saturday at the Santa Ynez Tournament.
Carpinteria (1-1) travels to Lompoc on Friday and hosts a double-header on Saturday.
