Santa Ynez erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Carpinteria, 15-7, in a non-league softball game on Tuesday.
The Warriors were leading 7-6 before the Pirates’ big inning.
Scarlett Pettine went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored for Carpinteria (1-5)
“Though we are an inexperienced, young team, we still need to learn to play and compete at a higher sustained level,” Carpinteria coach Henry Gonzalez said. “We are very capable of this but have to pull it from within ourselves. Once we do that then we will see better results.”
