In a battle of CIF ranked softball teams, Dos Pueblos handed Cabrillo its first loss, as Lani Evans and Madison Pickett combined on a 5-0 shutout.
Evans struck out six, walked one and allowed two hits in five innings. Pickett pitched the sixth and seventh innings and allowed just one hit, while striking out three.
The game was scoreless until the third. Melissa Spink got a slap hit through the left side of the infield, stole second and scored on a hit by Lauren Marmo. In the fourth, Kai Uyesaka led off with a hit, Ali Milam was hit by a pitch. Sam Sander put down a sacrifice bunt and Uyesaka beat the throw to third, loading the bases with no outs. Uyesaka scored on a wild pitch but McNamee, who was strong in the circle for the Conquistadores, struck out the next three batters.
In the bottom of the sixth, DP redeemed itself. With two outs, Jade Sinskul hit a line drive up the middle followed by a hit by Adyson Willett. Sinskul scored on a hit by Madison Buie. Willett and Buie scored on a hit by Bailey King.
Dos Pueblos (7-1), the top-ranked team in CIF-SS Division 4, plays host to Buena on Friday. Cabrillo, No. 2 in Division 5, is 7-1-1.
