Santa Barbara got another quality start from sophomore Kevin Gowdy, and the Dons rebounded from their loss to Dos Pueblos by beating Ventura 2-1 on Friday.
Gowdy struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in beating Ventura’s Travis Hawkins for his third win of the season. He gave up two hits and no earned runs.
Down 1-0, the Dons scored twice in the sixth inning. Bryce Morison hit a leadoff double, went to third on a bunt single by Skyler Sabado and scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Moropoulos. A wild pitch scored Sabado for the eventual winning rum.
Santa Barbara is 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league; Ventura is 3-4, 1-0.
