Trevor Moropoulos struck out nine and allowed just two hits, and Gabe Grandcolas scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Santa Barbara High defeated Marian Catholic, 1-0, in the opening game of the Coach Bob Invitational baseball tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
Grandcolas led off the sixth with a double and Moropoulos followed with a walk. Ian True sacrificed the runners to third and second and Dalton Schroeder walked to load the bases. A walk to Tim Stickles brought home Grandcolas for the run.
Santa Barbara improves to 7-1 and plays its second pool-play game Tuesday against Boulder Creek, Ariz.
