Buena jumped on Dos Pueblos for five runs in the third inning and held off the Chargers, 6-4, in a Channel League baseball game on Friday.
Dos Pueblos was leading 2-0 when Buena erupted for the big inning. The Bulldogs’ leadoff batter was hit by a pitch and scored after a sacrifice and a double. Two walks, a single and a triple resulted in four more runs.
Buena tacked on another run in the fourth after receiving a walk with two outs.
DP got one run back in the sixth with three straight singles before Buena turned a double play. A throwing error allowed another run to score, making it 6-4.
Reliever Addison Pelupessy pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for Buena.
DP took a 2-0 lead against Buena ace Charlie Brooks. In the first, Quinn Peacock singled, went to second on a sacrifice by Dustin Demeter and scored on a wild pitch.
In the second, Bryant Guzman singled to lead off the inning and Michael Boelter doubled him home for a 2-0 lead.
Dos Pueblos outhit Buena 7-5.
