Carlos Fairbanks and Ryan Baird combined for six hits and seven RBIs, powering Cate to an 11-1 season-opening win over visiting Newbury Park Adventist. The game was called after five innings.
Fairbanks and Baird both went 3-for-3. Fairbanks had a triple and double, drove in four runs and scored twice. Baird had a double, drove in three runs and scored a run.
Chris Oh was 2-for-2 and scored three times.
The Rams pounded out 11 hits and led 8-0 after two innings.
Starter Humza Khurshid pitched three innings to pick up the win. He struck out seven, allowed one hit and didn’t walk a batter.
