Six pitchers combined on a one-hitter for Carpinteria in a 7-0 shutout over Dunn in a non-league baseball game on Wednesday.
It was the first win of the season for the Warriors (1-2).
The Warrior staff took a no hitter into the seventh but Dunn’s Ryan Layton left no doubt as he led off the inning with a sharp single. That ended up being the lone hit as Duncan Gordon retired the Earwigs before they could push a run across. David Martinez struck out the side in the fifth and Sal Delgado pitched a 1-2-3 third. Both are right-handed freshmen.
At the plate, Kevin Stein and Mo Sanchez carried the hot bats. Stein was 3-for-3 with a homer, double, 4 RBIs and two runs scored. Sanchez was 3-3 with a double, two runs and a RBI. Sanchez, senior right hander, also picked up the win tossing the opening two frames.
“Today’s win started on the mound as the pitchers set the tone early,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “When Sanchez doubled with two strikes and then Stein knocked him in with two outs, you could feel the confidence build. The group played well.”
