Felix Mory tied his season best with a 3-under 69 on Monday at Santa Maria Country Club, leading SBCC to a second-place finish in WSC No. 6.
Mory also took second in the men’s golf tournament, two shots behind the medalist, Sidney Wolf, of Canyons who shot 67. Blake McPherson and Jackie Chan both shot 75 for the Vaqueros.
Canyons, which suffered its first WSC loss to Santa Barbara last Monday, shot a season-low of 4-under 356 to win by 22 shots. SBCC was second at 378, followed by Ventura (380) and Bakersfield (385). The Cougars lead the WSC standings at 40-2 and SBCC is second at 35-7.
“Canyons took it to the whole field with three guys in red numbers (under par),” said coach Chuck Melendez. “This is a course where you can score well and I told our guys we needed to be in the low 360s to have a chance to win.
“We’ve been hot and cold all year and we have to find a way to be more consistent.”
The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 7 on Monday at Marshall Canyon GC in La Verne.
