Matthew Prado of Santa Barbara High was named winner of the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award on Monday at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
When he’s not attending classes or playing football for the Dons, Prado spends much of his time volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club. He’s logged more than 155 hours of community service at the Eastside club.
Award present Dave Pintard read the remarks from club operation manager and program director Calvin Mass on Prado.
“Matthew has been a member of the club since he was about 8 years old,” Mass wrote. “It’s been great to see Matthew become a positive young man with a purpose in life. Matthew has been a great mentor and a great model to many of the kids that follow him.”
Prado, a junior, plays wide receive and corner back for the Santa Barbara football team.
