UCSB’s hot start to the baseball season has been recognized by college baseball publications.
The Gauchos (10-2) are ranked in the top 25 in national polls done by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America. It marks the first time they’ve been ranked nationally since 2001.
UCSB is No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball rankings and No. 23 in Baseball America. The Gauchos also received votes and/or consideration in polls by the NCBWA, USA Today, and Perfect Game.
The Gauchos are off to their best start since 1996. They are coming off a 3-1 week that saw them take two games in two tries from 2013 College World Series runners up Mississippi State and splitting a pair of contests with Arizona in the Hi Corbett Classic in Tucson. They entered the week in the top-5 nationwide in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
