Alex Bush (2-2) allowed just three hits over seven innings to claim a 3-1 Golden State Athletic Conference victory in the second game of a doubleheader against #22 San Diego Christian (22-8, 14-6 GSAC). Westmont (15-12, 8-11) lost the first game 10-2.
Bush, who did not allow a walk nor hit a batter in the seven inning game, faced just 25 batters, four more than the minimum.
All three Warrior runs came in the top of the second inning with two away. After Bush flied out to start the inning, Will Barring singled to left field. Brent Fukushima moved Barring to second with a single to center field. One out later, Chris Stroh doubled to right center, driving in both Barring and Fukushima. Stroh scored when Steven Pollex singled to right center.
In the early game, Russell Harmening suffered his second loss of the season against six wins. Harmening pitched five and one-third innings giving up seven runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits.
The Warriors scored on two solo home runs – the first by Fukushima in the second inning and the second by Pollex in the third.
Westmont, however, was unable to push any more runs across the plate and left 12 men on base.
The Warriors continue their road trip on Sunday and Monday when they participate in the Tucson Invitational against two teams from North Dakota. On Sunday, Westmont will take on Minot State in a 10:30 a.m. game. Then on Monday, the Warriors will face off with Dickinson State at 9:00 a.m.
