San Marcos picked up the pace in the second set, found its rhythm and rolled to a sweep over Arroyo Grande in a non-league boys volleyball match Tuesday night. The sets scores were 25-20, 25-11, 25-17.
Middle Taylor Mann blasted nine kills and Baker Johnson added seven for the Royals, the top-ranked team in CIF Division 2. Opposite Nick Rockwell added four kills. Setter Christian Widmer dished out 38 assists.
“We got off to a slow start,” San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz said. “Arroyo Grande played excellent defense. We picked up the pace in Game 2 and played with more heart.”
San Marcos (15-0) plays at Dos Pueblos on Thursday in a Channel League match. (NOTE: This article originally said the match was to be played on Wednesday.)
