Returning All-CIF player Shane Hauschild pounded 14 kills to lead San Marcos to a 25-14, 25-4, 25-20 sweep over Rio Mesa in a season-opening boys volleyball match on Tuesday.
Baker Johnson added nine kills and Nick Brockwell, a transfer from Arizona added four kills from the opposite position. Middle Taylor Mann played a solid match, contributing two solo blocks and two kills. Setter Christian Widmer handed out 31 assists and libero Sean Estabrooks kept the team in system with his passing.
The Royals play at Crespi on Wednesday night before heading off to the Redondo Tournament over the weekend. They are the second seed in the tourney.
