San Marcos opened Channel League volleyball play with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 sweep at Buena on Thursday.
It was the 11th straight win without a loss for the Royals, the top-ranked team in CIF Division 2.
San Marcos used its reserves for the majority of the match.
“We have a very experienced group of varsity players and good depth at all positions” indicated head coach Roger Kuntz. “We continue to improve our pace at practice and we are working hard on defense and our blocking game. Once again, we were steady in serve and serve receive and we were able to play our nonstarters for the entire match, along with spot playing our starters to keep them on their game.”
Kuntz lauded the play of senior setter Nick Rockwell, opposites Emerson Pizzinat and Greg Kronen, outside hitters Jake Pighetti and Ben Hauschild, libero Joe Terre and middles Jake Castanha and Diego Almanza.
San Marcos is the No. 1 seed for this Saturday’s Dos Pueblos Invitational at the UCSB Thunderdome.
