Kiyan Mashhoon and Colton Johnson each pounded eight kills to lead Laguna Blanca to a sweep over Bishop Diego in the boys volleyball season opener for both teams. The set scores were
25-15, 25-19, 25-18.
Mashhoon had a solid varsity debut for the Owls with eight kills on 13 attempts and no errors from the opposite position. He also had two blocks and two aces.
Johnson was 8 for 15. Setter Cuyler Zimmerman handed out 31 assists to go with three aces and eight digs.
“It was a nice way to start the season,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said of the win. “We served and passed well.”
Chandler Swift and Grant Sexton led Bishop Diego. Sexton just joined the team after playing on the boys basketball team that advanced to the CIF semifinals.
“For only having a handful of practices, I think we improved tonight,” Bishop coach Jason Donnelly said. “We have a lot of work to do and are looking forward to getting back in the gym to work things out.”
