Bishop Diego’s boys volleyball team reached the semifinals of their own tournament on Saturday before losing to La Salle.
The Cardinals beat Mission Prep and Arrowhead Christian Academy in group play, then defeated Laguna Blanca in the first round of the Gold-Division playoff.
“Overall we played some really high level volleyball and got better throughout the course of the day,” said Bishop Diego head coach Jason Donnelly.
Outside hitter Grant Sexton led Bishop Diego in kills and digs and earned All-Tournament team honors.
Another standout for the Cardinals according to Donnelly was Luca Jordano. The sophomore continued to take his game to a new level each day and played well at the opposite position. Freshman setter Brolin Parris also drew praise from Donnelly.
“(Brolin) led our team in assists today and played well beyond his years. It was great to see him step up his level of competition.”
Bishop Diego next hosts Carpinteria on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Saddleback Valley Christian swept La Salle in the championship for the tournament title.
