Kento Perera improved his season record to 14-0, but San Marcos dropped a 13-5 decision to San Luis Obispo in a non-league tennis match on Wednesday.
The Royals (3-2) won only two sets in doubles and fell behind early in the match.
“We’ve played consistently better each round in our matches so I need to find a way to help us start better,” San Marcos coach Jarrod Bradley said. “ We dig a hole and then have to climb out.”
Perera scored an impressive 6-2 win over SLO’s Mason Hansen, a top-100 player in the Boys 18s.
“Kento was mentally tough today against a big server. He waited patiently for his opportunities to break and did so in the sixth and eighth games to finish the set,” said Bradley.
