Matt Hammond pulled out a one-hour set in a tiebreaker and Cameron Roberts won his first varsity singles match, helping Bishop Diego defeat Santa Clara 11-7 in a Frontier League tennis match on Thursday.
Hammond came back from a 5-2 deficit and outlasted Peter Wilder 7-6 (6) in a one-hour battle between No. 2 singles players.
Bishop’s No. 1 player Spencer Ekola improved to 15-0 on the season with three 6-0 set wins.
The Cardinals’ No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Pierz/Jose Pacheco were undefeated and dropped only three games. New teammates, Stratford-Jones/Krul, upset Santa Clara’s No. 1 team Flores/Laub, 7-5.
Bishop improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league.
